			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Thursday 27 May, National Library of Scotland Causewayside Building, Salisbury Place</p>
<p>The conference will showcase innovation and partnership in the library community.  The all day event will feature presentations from Newcastle City Library (2009 Winner – Innovation – CILIP Public Library Buildings Award), Edinburgh Reading Champion Project (2009 Finalist – Libraries Change Lives award), Napier University Library (the first university library in Scotland to achieve the Cabinet Office’s Customer Service Excellence award), and Cleo Jones (who will be presenting on the subject of international exchange programmes for librarians).  Breakout sessions on partnerships for the future, libraries and communities and innovation in a digital world will also be on the agenda.  Please note that there is no charge to attend the event, but that lunch will not be provided.  There will be a space where you can eat your own packed lunch.  There are also sandwich shops and a Tesco Metro in very close proximity to the Library.  There will also be a small exhibition on the subject of library co-operation through the ages which can be viewed during the lunch break.  The full programme is as follows:</p>

<p>Applications are invited for a Biodiversity Heritage Library Europe Project Worker to join the Library department at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh. This post is being offered as a 9 month temporary appointment.</p>
<p>The main duties and specific responsibilities of the role are:</p>
<p>• Identify potential content for inclusion in BHL Europe<br />
• Manage digital content created for inclusion in BHL Europe<br />
• Create and amend metadata for items submitted to BHL Europe, according to metadata scheme agreed by BHL Europe partners<br />
• Liaise online and face to face with other BHL partners by wiki, e-mail and stated workshops/meetings to forward the creation and development of BHL Europe Portal<br />
• Publicise the BHL Europe project nationally across the professional and amateur scientific communities<br />
• Liaise with potential funding sources for digital content development</p>
<p>Applicants must possess a degree as well as a postgraduate qualification in Information Science. You will have good written and verbal skills, practical experience with digitisation projects and experience of digital content management. You will have knowledge of metadata schemes, e.g. METS; MODS; MARC, MARC XML. You will have experience using wikis and social network sites e.g. Google, e-Publishing and a good working knowledge of OCR. Experience of EU funded projects as well as having verbal communication skills in another EU language, particularly French and German is also desirable.</p>
