News round-up, week beginning 28th May

From Wilson Smith, Edinburgh College of Art Library:

“Regarding Edinburgh College of Art Library’s enforced closure because of the West Port building collapse, this is just to let you know that the problem has been resolved a little sooner than we anticipated. The College has now been allowed access to the east part of Evolution House, so the library is now open once again and we’re up and running normally.

Lady Lawson Street is still closed due to continuing traffic restrictions round the demolition site, so approach has to be made from the West Port side. However, access to Evolution House is possible via the main entrance.

Please advise any of your readers who may wish to use the College Library accordingly.”

From the PR & External Affairs Department of the National Library of Scotland:

“Staff at the National Library of Scotland have hit on a unique way to raise funds and awareness ahead of their gruelling 54 mile trek across the West Highland Way in the Caledonian Challenge as they invite people to submit short poems in the form of haikus along with their donations. The entries will be judged by Edinburgh poet Ken Cockburn with the winning entrant in line to scoop a dinner for two in a top Edinburgh restaurant. The closing date for entries is June 8th. To find out more, support the team and to find out how to submit your own poetic contributions, go to http://www.nls.uk/team%2Dnls/.”

“Skills to Change” ELISA Open Day 2007

ELISA Open Day at the National Library of ScotlandThe ELISA Open Day was hosted by the National Library of Scotland on Tuesday 15th May. It was organised by a small team from six different library services and attracted over 100 delegates from over 35 different Edinburgh-based organisations.

The initial feedback was very positive, the following comment being a nice example: “Excellent morning. Like being at a top class conference with such high quality speakers. Very friendly; great atmosphere, superbly organised. Many thanks for a brilliant staff networking/ CPD opportunity.”

This was the programme and this is a photographic record of the day.

A report and follow-up information will be issued in early June.
