Edinburgh’s Festival of Libraries 2008

What do you want to know?
If you want to know about times past or plans future, how to fund raise or hell raise, how to kickstart your career or Bookstart your child’s reading – you will find the answers in a library in Edinburgh, and you won’t necessarily find it in a book! To find the answers to these questions, the general public were invited to join in Edinburgh’s Festival of Libraries 2008, Saturday 8th – Friday 14th November.

The week-long programme started with Edinburgh’s Libraries Fair, Saturday 8th November 10.00 – 4.00 Adam House, Chambers Street with over 35 libraries under one roof. There were about 67 events at venues throughout the week – involving over 65 different organisations – and most of it was free! The Festival finale was a public debate on “The Future of the Book”, chaired by Scotland on Sunday’s Stuart Kelly.

The aims of the event were to raise the profiles of libraries; to show case the treasures that are held in publicly accessible places; and to demonstrate the superb services offered by libraries and information services – very often for free. Read the ELISA Development Officer’s report on how the Festival went.
